Activities
in the Medical Technology section are focused on the development
and improvement of technology for clinical use. Frequently
fundamental technical and physical problems must be solved to
achieve the desired result. Extensive co-operation with various
medical departments exists to ensure results that are useful in
clinical practice.
An important research topic is the processing of various
biomedical signals and images. Applications range from processing
of multi channel cardiological signals related to heart
rhythm disturbances, segmentation and matching of 3D medical
image data to processing of electron-microscopy data (medical
imaging).
A second research activity is the Amsterdam-Delft program on minimally
invasive surgery and interventions. Aim of this program is to
analyze the performance of the surgeon or interventionist and
determine the limitations of the procedures. Necessary technical
improvements for these limitations are developed and their
efficacy in the procedure is evaluated. With respect to technical
solutions there is a direct link to the Medical-Technical
Development department (MTD) which is headed by the section
leader. |
